The Pubs Code has strict deadlines. The MRO factsheet says your pub company must receive your MRO notice within 21 days, starting the day after the MRO event. The Pubs Code Adjudicator says meeting time limits is the tenant's and the pub company's responsibility.
We don't calculate or watch deadlines. If you've had a rent assessment proposal or an MRO response, check the dates with your adviser or your pub company's Code Compliance Officer now.
Free help first.
- The BII helpline.
The Pubs Code Adjudicator says the British Institute of Innkeeping's helplines give tied tenants 30 minutes of free advice from industry and business professionals. The six regulated pub companies take out BII membership that covers their tied tenants on substantive agreements.
PCA: getting advice - The Pubs Code Adjudicator.
Factsheets on your rights, including the deadlines. Phone 0121 345 1222 (standard call rates). It gives information, but doesn't run a casework service or act for you in a dispute.
Contact the PCA - Your pub company's Code Compliance Officer.
The PCA says the CCO can answer your questions about your Pubs Code rights and any relevant time limits.

What people bring us.
A rent assessment proposal.
The proposed rent and the 12-month profit and loss forecast behind it. A RAP also gives you the right to ask for the Market Rent Only option.
A rent proposal.
For a new agreement, a 1954 Act renewal or some rent changes. Unlike a RAP, it doesn't give you the right to ask for MRO. Guide : A rent proposal
An MRO response.
The free-of-tie tenancy and rent your pub company proposes, set beside your current lease.
Your tied lease or tenancy.
The tie, rent review, repairs, and what happens at the end. Guide : Your tied lease or tenancy
A section 25 notice or renewal offer.
The date in it, and what the pub company proposes. The Act says a section 25 notice must be given between six and twelve months before the termination date it gives. Guide : A section 25 notice or renewal offer
What we mark for you.
- Every date, and the event each one runs from.
- The rent, the tie, and every product and service it covers.
- The figures in the forecast, and any we can't trace to the papers.
- Where an MRO offer's terms differ from your current lease.
Each point is pinned to its clause and page, with a question to ask. A star marks wording that may help you.
What a pack does, and doesn't do.
Does
- Explains what the proposal or lease says
- Lists every date, figure and tied product
- Writes your questions for your adviser or the CCO
Doesn't
- Value the rent or say whether it's fair
- Advise whether to stay tied or go free of tie
- Send an MRO notice, refer to arbitration, or deal with the pub company for you
