Not legal advice

Beta draft. This page is being reviewed by a solicitor before CaseReader takes paying customers.
CaseReader helps you understand your documents and prepare for professional advice. It is not that advice.
What a pack is
A pack is a careful first reading of your document, whatever it is: a business lease, an employment contract or settlement agreement, a tenancy, a contract with a builder, family papers, a will, or court papers. It sets out what the document says, in plain English, with the points that seem to matter most, who usually handles this kind of document, and questions to take to an adviser.
What a pack is not
- It is not legal, financial, tax, surveying or other professional advice, and it is not tailored advice on your circumstances.
- CaseReader is not a firm of solicitors, surveyors or accountants and is not regulated by the SRA, RICS or ICAEW.
- It does not create a solicitor–client or any other professional relationship.
- We don't act for you: we don't conduct litigation, prepare or file court or tribunal documents, carry out probate work, or contact anyone on your behalf.
- It may contain mistakes. Each point cites its source so you can check it.
Settlement agreements
A settlement agreement with an employer only binds you once you've had advice on it from a relevant independent adviser, such as a qualified lawyer. A pack can help you prepare for that advice. It can't replace it.
Other law
We write for the law of England and Wales. Documents under Scottish, Northern Irish or other law are read in general terms only; check any point with a lawyer there.
The conversation
The optional conversation before you send documents is with an AI assistant. It explains in general terms and helps focus your reading. It isn't advice, it doesn't decide anything, and a person still checks your pack.
Deadlines and urgent matters
We don't calculate or watch deadlines. If there's a court or tribunal date, a deadline within 14 days, an eviction or possession notice, or a settlement offer with a deadline, get advice now. Don't wait for a pack.
Free help
- Citizens Advice: most problems, including debt, housing, work and family.
- Shelter (or Shelter Cymru in Wales): renting, eviction and homelessness.
- Acas: work problems and settlement agreements.
- LEASE: leasehold flats.
- National Debtline: debts and court claims for money.
- Civil Legal Advice: whether you can get legal aid.
Finding an adviser
The Law Society's Find a Solicitor, the RICS Find a Surveyor and the ICAEW directory list regulated professionals. We can also suggest firms near you.
