Terms of service
Last updated 21 October 2026
Beta draft. This page is being reviewed by a solicitor before CaseReader takes paying customers.
1. What CaseReader is
CaseReader prepares a plain-English first reading of documents you upload (a "pack"). You can send almost any document, for example business papers, employment contracts and settlement agreements, tenancies and leases, papers about buying or selling a home, contracts and disputes with builders, sellers, lenders or insurers, family papers, wills and estates, and court or tribunal papers. Immigration, nationality and asylum papers are outside the scope of the service, and we don't accept them. The pack explains what the documents say, highlights points that may matter to you and suggests questions to ask a professional adviser. You must be 18 or over to order.
2. What a pack is not
- Not advice. A pack is general information to help you prepare. It is not legal, financial, tax, surveying or other professional advice, and it is not advice on your particular circumstances.
- No solicitor–client relationship. Using CaseReader doesn't make us your solicitor or adviser, and doesn't create any other professional relationship.
- We don't act for you. We don't conduct litigation, prepare or file court or tribunal documents, carry out probate work, negotiate, or contact anyone on your behalf.
- We don't calculate or watch deadlines. Any dates in a pack are copied from your documents so you can check them with your adviser.
- Not a regulated firm. CaseReader is not a firm of solicitors, surveyors or accountants, and is not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, RICS or ICAEW. You will not have the protections that come with a regulated firm, including professional indemnity cover held for your benefit or the right to complain to the Legal Ombudsman.
- Settlement agreements. A settlement agreement with an employer is only binding if, before you sign it, you have had advice on its terms and effect from a relevant independent adviser, such as a qualified lawyer, as the law requires. A pack is not that advice and can't take its place.
- Other law. We write for the law of England and Wales. If a document is under the law of Scotland, Northern Ireland or elsewhere, we read it in general terms only, and you should check any point with a lawyer there.
You should not act, or decide not to act, on a pack alone. Take it to a qualified adviser before making a decision.
3. Urgent matters
If you have a court or tribunal date, a deadline within 14 days, an eviction or possession notice, or a settlement offer with a deadline, get advice now from a solicitor or a free advice service such as Citizens Advice, Shelter or Acas. Don't wait for a pack. We can still prepare one to help you brief them, but we do not monitor or act on deadlines, and our delivery time is not designed for urgent matters.
4. How we prepare a pack
Your documents are read by several AI models, and a person compares their output and checks it against the documents before delivery. AI can make mistakes, and so can people. Each point in a pack cites the clause and page it relies on so that you or your adviser can check it.
5. Price and payment
The price depends on the number of pages, as shown before you send your documents. Until the end of the launch period shown on our pricing page, the launch price applies. After it, the standard price applies. The price shown is the total you pay; nothing is added at checkout.
We recount PDF pages after upload and tell you any corrected price before you pay. If a video or Word file turns out longer than the estimate, we will ask you before going ahead, and you may cancel for a full refund.
When card payments are switched on, they are taken by Stripe and we never see your full card details.
6. Delivery and our late-delivery refund
For paid orders, we aim to deliver within one working day of payment (England and Wales bank holidays excluded; payments after 5pm or on a non-working day start the clock at 9am on the next working day). If we deliver late, we will refund the price in full and still deliver the pack.
We deliver your pack to your account, where you can download it. Packs are kept there for 12 months.
7. Requests during the beta
While card payments are being set up, you can send documents for a reading without paying. Sending a request doesn't create a contract and nothing is charged. We'll email you to confirm the price and delivery time. The contract starts only if you accept that price and pay; we'll ask you then whether you want us to start straight away, which affects your right to cancel (see section 9). Once you've accepted and paid, we'll confirm the contract by email, with these terms, the cancellation form and whether you asked us to start straight away. If you don't go ahead, we delete your files 90 days after upload, or sooner if you ask (you can remove an unfinished upload yourself in your account).
8. The conversation before you send
Before you send your documents, you can have a short conversation (up to 10 messages) with an AI assistant. It gives general explanations of what documents like yours usually say and helps us focus your reading. It is not advice, it doesn't decide anything, and it isn't a solicitor or surveyor. A person still reads your documents and checks your pack. What you type, and text from your documents, is sent to Anthropic's Claude to write the replies, as described in our privacy notice.
9. Your right to cancel
If you're a consumer (ordering for yourself or your family, not for a business or organisation), you can cancel this contract within 14 days without giving a reason. Preparing a pack is a service; the pack is how we deliver it. The 14 days start on the day the contract is made: the day you accept our price and pay (or, once card payments are on, the day you pay at checkout).
Starting straight away. We only start within those 14 days if you ask us to. If you ask us to start and then cancel before your pack is delivered, we may keep an amount in proportion to the work done up to when you told us. Once your pack is delivered, you no longer have the right to cancel, because you asked us to start and acknowledged that you'd lose the right once the service was fully provided. If you don't ask us to start, we wait until the 14 days have passed, and your pack is due one working day after that.
How to cancel. Tell us clearly before the 14 days end: send us a message, choosing "Cancel an order" and giving your order number. You can use the form below, but you don't have to. It's enough that you tell us before the period ends.
Your refund. We'll refund what you've paid (less any amount for work done, as above) within 14 days of hearing from you, using the same method you paid with, at no cost to you.
Businesses and community groups ordering for an organisation don't have this legal right, but you can still cancel for a full refund at any time before we start preparing your pack.
Model cancellation form (complete and return this form only if you wish to cancel the contract)

10. Your documents
You confirm you are entitled to share the documents you upload. You keep all rights in them. We use them only to prepare your pack, as described in our privacy notice. Documents often contain sensitive information about you or other people, such as health, family or employment details; please leave out anything we don't need to read.
11. Our liability
We will prepare packs with reasonable care and skill. Because a pack is general information and not advice, and because you agree to take professional advice before acting, our total liability to you for any order is limited to the price you paid for it, except where the law does not allow us to limit liability (for example for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud). Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
12. Recommendations of advisers
If we suggest a solicitor, surveyor or accountant, we do so for your convenience. They are independent of us and responsible for their own advice. We do not currently receive referral fees. If that changes, we will tell you before making a recommendation.
13. Complaints, contact and law
If something has gone wrong, send us a message, choosing "A complaint", and we will reply within five working days. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
